My "Skin Routine"

I put quotations around this term because I would say it implies more than reality. However we all know the daily hell we put our faces through can do long term damage, which is why it’s really important to look after your skin. On the other hand, not all of us have time for a skin routine that requires a manual so here are some of my tips when it comes to skin:

  1. Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen- we tend to shy away from it as many of us like to get our tan on when the sun is out but when it comes to my face and chest, I apply sun protection daily- rain, hail or shine. A quick mist of coconut spray sunscreen before my make up takes two seconds and I know protects my skin from the Aussie sun. In summer I tend to move away from make up and my favourite product becomes my tinted sunscreen as it protects while also providing just enough coverage.

  2. Get the right primer- I didn’t even know primer was a thing until recently but understanding how it works and what is best for me has shown serious improvements for my skin. Get advice from people who know and it’s not a bad idea to invest a little more in this area than perhaps your other products.

  3. Keep foundation light and dewy- I don’t like to layer powders and liquids at all as I feel like it stops my skin from breathing. If you like the fuller coverage look, make sure to get a really good cleanser and use it often.

  4. Clean- this one is a no brainer, but even so it doesn’t always happen for me. However we should always clean off our make up before bed and do it well. Our skin goes through a rejuvenation process during the night to keep it healthy and we can help this process by allowing it to breathe. Make sure you clean off all your eye make up, left over mascara can mean applying it the next day turns your lashes into spider legs.

  5. Toner and moisturiser- these are the only two products I occasionally apply after my cleanser. During the changing of the seasons my skin can quite often dry out so I have a nice moisturiser on hand to combat. I occasionally apply a toner if my skin is having issues or I know that it needs it (ie after a heavily made up photoshoot). This helps imperfections and tightening pores but don’t over do it, otherwise it can cause damage to the skin.

  6. Treat your skin - when the girls come over or when my sister and I have a lazy Friday night, face masks are a bit of fun and can do wonders for your skin. Afterwards, its a good idea to exfoliate the skin, be sure not to use a harsh exfoliant as your face is very delicate.

  7. Try not to touch your face - I am renowned for leaning on my hands while I work or nervously touching my face but it wreaks havoc on my skin. Its important to keep your hands away from your face as much as possible, germs from other surfaces as well as the oil your hands produce can cause breakouts and irritations. Lesson here; keep your hands off!

I hope these tips help! As mentioned I don’t have time for exuberant skin routines but nonetheless we all need to look after our skin. Until next time, stay lazy! xx
