WEEK 1

Neutrals. Not many cities can do black like Melbourne and this is clearly reflected in the shopfronts lining our most iconic shopping Emporium. For the autumn winter season of 2018 many shops have chosen a more neutral pallets, mixing blacks with greys and nudes to lighten the look.

Reds. As Spring/summer saw the return of bright fire engine reds, the trend has continued into the colder months with a shift to darker, richer reds. This colour well suits a wardrobe of blacks and darker block colours.

Sportswear as daywear. A very clear theme I saw throughout every level of brand was a clear connection to active wear that has been designed to wear throughout the day and even into the night. This trend has been strongly endorsed by health and fashion bloggers on social media.

WEEK 2

Of these three trends I chose Sportswear as daywear as a theme to investigate further. These are articles from online and printed magazines that reflect this trend.

WEEK 3

Of the four Megatrends WGSN has put together I felt Nocturne was most likely where the trend originated. This trend is all about exploring darkness from a positive perspective and the night becomes an active moment, whether through the growth of afterdark sports, or through a greater interest in dream states and mysticism.

This trend takes a number of forms for women’s apparel. Daywear becomes more night appropriate, with casual active-inspired looks in head-to-toe black, and nightwear transitions into the day, with tailored pyjama style silhouettes.

WEEK 4

The look of the 50s in womens fashion is often very sophisticated and put together with matching hats, belts and bags. However, in the privacy of their homes, women wore much more comfortable, industrious clothing. As time went on, these casual clothing for women became much more publicly accepted. 1950s women were secretly wearing pants at home but it wasn’t until they were prominently seen on TV that they felt comfortable wearing them outside of the home too.

This liberation of casual, comfortable clothing from the privacy of the home is similarly reflected in the way athleisure has taken to the streets in recent times.
